Break In and Robbery For the second time in two weeks, the parish is broken into and robbed. On the Friday before Mother’s Day, our two 40 foot cargo containers and storage sheds are broken into and various electrical items are stolen. Then, on Tuesday, May 19th, a stone slab from a bench in the memorial garden was used to break into the glass doors of the pastoral office, pry bars were used to break into all of the doors and cupboards, the sacristy was broken into and the safe was stolen. The collections from the previous Sunday were in the safe along with all of our sacramental records. Antioch Police were called and responded, taking a report and dusting for fingerprints. Late that afternoon, the officer who took the report informs us that the safe had been found, empty, in a park near the parish. The police indicate that they have three suspects and are hoping to make an arrest which will result in the return of our stolen items. By Wednesday afternoon, Antioch Police return to the parish and share with us the good news that all of the sacramental registers along with the monies from the Catholic Charities collection, the 30th anniversary, and the Relay for Life dinner have been found in the dumpster of a local supermarket. It is all processed as evidence, photographed, dusted for fingerprints, and DNA samples are taken. On Friday, a new alarm/security system is installed.

Christmas 2009 Christmas Eve and Day are celebrated with great beauty as the parish gathers to celebrate the Feast of the Nativity. On Christmas Eve, the children tell the story of Christmas at the 4:00 p.m. Liturgy. The music, under the direction of Don Pearson, Director of Music and Organist, is outstanding. The Environment Committee creates a spectacular environment, all done in white, burgundy and gold with wreathes, garlands, thousands of white lights, Christmas trees, and white pointsettias. The gardens of the church, the Gathering Plaza, the entrance drive are all decorated with red pointsettias and the large spruce tree near the first drive entrance is lighted with all white lights. The niches are decorated with lighted wreathes, the church is outlined in white lights, and a large lighted wreath adorns the tympanum. Father Tom preaches the liturgies and introduces us to the readings that are proper to each of the celebrations. His homilies are insightful, inspirational, prophetic, challenging, and there is always his wonderful sense of humor. It is truly a Christmas to remember.
