BAPTISMAL POLICY
At St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, the Sacrament of Infant Baptism is celebrated communally every month, with the exception of Lent. Baptism, the first sacrament of initiation, is into the faith community and thus “private” liturgies are not celebrated. Each baptismal liturgy will include no more than ten infants, however, if there are more than ten families requesting baptism on a given day, a second liturgy will be scheduled later in the day.
The first and preferred form of baptism in the Roman Catholic Church is by immersion and the font at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church allows for this form to be celebrated beautifully. Infusion, or the pouring of the baptismal water over the head of an infant, is also possible. For those parents choosing immersion, we ask that you bring your child in a diaper and wrapped in a swaddling blanket. Following the baptism, parents and godparents are directed to a side area where the newly-baptized is dressed in their white baptismal garment.
Our of respect for the sacredness of the celebration, we ask that no flash photography take place during the liturgy. Timed exposure photographs are always allowed. Following the celebration there is ample time to take photographs with flash either at the font or in front of the altar.
