June 4, 1979 - An Episcopal Degree signed by The Most Reverend John S. Cummins (Bishop of Oakland) established the boundaries of a new parish in the city of Antioch and the Diocese of Oakland.
The new parish was named after St. Ignatius of Antioch (A.D. 110), a martyr and a disciple of the Apostle John.
While funds were being raised for a church building, mass was celebrated at Park Junior High School until an earthquake in 1981. Mass was then celebrated at Mission School. By 1981, the parish had an estimated 600 registered families.
September 9, 1979 - The first recorded baptism was performed for Anastasia Marie Wilcox, daughter of Jeffrey and Arlene.
April 12, 1980 – The first recorded wedding was performed for Kevin Eugene Rally and Patricia Helen Pierce.
1986 - The land and rectory were purchased at a cost of $178,208 and Mighetto Goldin and Associates of Berkeley designed the future church building.
February 21,1987 – The St. Ignatius of Antioch church building was opened at 3351 Contra Loma Boulevard. Bishop John Cummins paid his official visit to the new parish center on March 1 and administered Confirmation to 26 parishioners.
This new church building was completed at a cost of $837,820; for which $556,600 was unpaid. At that time, the parish had 900 registered families.
1997 – The church building was remodeled at a cost of $350,000.
1998 – The parking lot was enlarged and re-striped at a cost of $105,000.
2000 – Continue the Vision I solicited approximately $1,000,000 for a new church building. This amount was subsequently used to pay for outstanding debts incurred from all construction/renovation.
November 23, 2002 – Upon full payment of all debts, Father Geoffrey and Deacon Al burned loan papers releasing the parish from its monetary obligations.
2003 – Continue the Vision II received approximately $1,200,000 in pledges for the construction of a new Family Life Center. The Center will provide an activity venue for the 2630 registered families, 579 Faith Formation students and numerous ministries serving our parishioners and community.
December 19, 2004 – The Most Reverend Allen H. Vigneron (Bishop of Oakland), assisted by Father Vince Cotter and Father Geoffrey Baraan, broke ground for the construction of the new Family Life Center.
January 1, 2005 – Reverend Thomas Peter Bonacci, C.P. joined the Pastoral Team of St. Ignatius of Antioch Church.
January 15, 2005 – Reverend Robert Kenneth Rien was assigned as the Parochial Administrator of the Parish.
February 17, 2008 - The Most Reverend Allen H. Vigneron (Bishop of Oakland)
dedicated and blessed the new mensa created from mahogany, oak, cedar, maple and
golf leaf accents by Master Woodscraftsman Oscar Jovel.
